LaQueen on Housing

MFZ

LaQueen Battle has first-hand experience with housing insecurity and has lived in Chicago, Quincy, and now Cambridge. LaQueen has spoken in support of services for people experiencing housing insecurity.

LaQueen is in favor of upzoning and knows firsthand how difficult accessing Affordable Housing is. She has experience with rent control and has spoken about the balance of rent control at the expense of affordable housing, and thinks there should be more of an emphasis on paths to home ownership.

She has given public comment in support of exploring Social Housing.

Homeless families have more of a hill to climb.

Many shelters won't accept suitcases; many are full; many told me they didn't have beds available, and the only option was for me to sleep on the floor.

"This year, we turned the traditional format upside down: community members with lived experience will speak first, and candidates will listen and respond. We heard directly about pressing issues like housing, mental health, and food security—and learn how candidates plan to act on them."
